Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

Bonjour les parents et les soignants!

HELLO PARENTS AND CARERS!

Learning a foreign language at school improves a pupils’ listening skills and memory. The skills utilised in learning a new language can be transferable to other subjects, such as English and math.

Here at Edward Worlledge Ormiston Academy our key stage 2 pupils (years 3 to 6) have one French lesson timetabled each week, where they can learn French vocabulary and grammar in topics which include ‘Do you have a pet?’, ‘The family,’ and ‘In the classroom.’

More than 300 million people speak French and it is the second most widely learned language, after English. French is the only language, alongside English, that is taught in every country in the world.

At the end of every unit, we assess every pupils’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills based on what they have learned.

Just think of all the exciting opportunities our pupils can have by learning French at Primary School!
