At Edward Worlledge Ormiston Academy we aim to achieve high quality RE for all pupils. Each year pupils will be introduced to a range of different faiths as part of a broad and balanced curriculum. Our aim is to develop pupils’ knowledge of the world’s principal religious traditions. Our curriculum will also support pupils to develop spiritually, morally, socially, culturally and intellectually.
Our drive is to make RE a meaningful and relevant subject. Our vision is to develop children’s skill of enquiry and explore and consider different answers to these questions by considering local, national and world views. We follow the ‘Discovery RE’ scheme of work, in conjunction with the National Curriculum and Norfolk Agreed Syllabus, these lessons aim to equip and empower children to make sense of the world they live in as they progress through the year groups. This programme provides a solid structure for delivering a wide range of subject content covering the world principal religions.
Our vision is to focus to a creative curriculum that includes celebrations of the major world religious festivals. Also, we believe that if we are really going to celebrate the importance of religious education, we need to move it beyond the academy and classroom and into the community. Therefore, we will strengthen these links to the local community because we are excited to engage in projects that work in partnership with local people. For example, we are looking forward to inviting parents/carers and members of the local community to share with us their personal experiences of festivals, stories and times of reflection.
We are also looking forwards to visiting local places of worship, where possible, related to the unit we are teaching, to learn about different faiths and cultural traditions.
As an academy our aim is to listen to others, value diversity and share our work together. Our aim is for children to grow in confidence, be creative, learn knowledge and seek answers to questions in compassionate ways.
