The gates open at 8.30am, and the children will be lined up and taken to their classrooms at 8.45am. Registration takes place at 8.55am, so please ensure your child is in on time so they get their mark in the register.
During this time, children will be given a morning task to complete, they will also need to hand in their reading record.
The children are taught in classes and we always start each lesson with counting. We promote the use of resources to aid learning in maths, and children have access to these during the lesson.
At 10.10am the children will be provided with a snack and drink, before going out to play at 10.15am for 15 minutes. Please ensure your child has a coat during the colder months.
During English, we cover spelling, grammar and punctuation, as well as guided reading and writing.
We base lots of our work around children’s books, by authors such as Julia Donaldson and Oliver Jeffers. We follow the Talk 4 Writing structure for writing, which involves lots of fun imitation activities. The children then innovate on what they have learned. Writing is cross curricular with the topics we do.
All Year 2 children get a hot dinner provided for free, which they will eat in the academy cafeteria. Once they have eaten, they then get the chance to run off some steam outside.
After lunch, the children are registered and then depending on what day it is, will either have a KS1, singing or class assembly.
During the afternoon, we cover history, geography, science, art, computing and PE. PSHE, RE and D&T are covered during curriculum days.
The academy day finishes at 3 pm and the children will be lined up on the playground for parents and carers to collect them, unless they are signed up for an enrichment activity.
