EAL – English as an additional language

At Edward Worlledge Ormiston Academy, we believe that the success and achievement of pupils depends upon a clearer understanding of their social, cultural and language background.

We celebrate the fact that we are a multicultural academy and our aim is to fully include all pupils. We provide a stimulating learning environment, across the whole curriculum, which maximises individual potential and ensures that pupils of all cultures are well equipped to meet the challenges of our education.

We encourage  pupils to bring their culture into the classroom and welcome the knowledge, culture and language which bilingual pupils bring to the academy.

We have a diverse language pool at Edward Worlledge, we have pupils on roll whose home language is Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Hungarian, Latvian, Romanian, Croatian and Tamil.

During recent months pupils who use EAL may have experienced many disruptions to their teaching and learning. The Bell Foundation offer guidance and resources to support EAL families following an unprecedented period of school closures.
